Hundley-Whaley Research Center in Albany to feature two tours

The Hundley-Whaley Research Center in Albany will feature two tours during its upcoming Twilight Tour, with a focus on industrial hemp, wine, and agronomic crop decisions.

The two tours will run from 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, August 27th. Superintendent Jennifer Miller says one of the tours will feature presentations on industrial hemp and the Missouri wine industry.

"We have two tours that we are offering.  The first one will discuss Missouri industrial fiber hemp and the Missouri wine industry.  We have several speakers on both and I think a lot of people will have questions about growing industrial hemp in Missouri this year.  So we'll have people there to answer those questions.  It's really exciting that we got to do research this year. The governor signed the bill for us to plant even though the planting is really late.  But to get a head start and get some research on a very important crop that will be in northwest Missouri."

The other tour will focus on agronomic crop decision and will take a look at a variety of issues affecting farmers and producers, including Japanese beetles. Miller says the two tours will have outstanding speakers and important topics.

"Andy Luke is the Gentry County regional agronomist.  He'll be there and he'll talk about what happened during the flood at the beginning of the season.  And then it went to drought and kind of what we can expect now and what we can do to prepare next year.  We have Climate View coming and they will talk about what you can put on your tractor and your combine.  Dr. John Cruise will be there and he's going to talk about the economics connecting farmers to higher value market."

This year's Hundley-Whaley Research Center's farm-tours in Albany take place Tuesday, August 27th from 5 to 8 p.m.
